Peace and quiet can be difficult to come by in the city, so wouldn’t it be useful if we had a version of Siân Lloyd who could say when the cars are going to start beeping outside your window or the neighbours are going to turn their radio up as if it was predictable as weather fronts?
Well this is the role artists Birgit Binder and Duncan Speakman have put themselves in for ‘Noise Forecast’. Based on research involving interviews with local residents, ambient sound recordings and the measurement of environmental sound levels the pair are creating an online audio show which aims to help you find the ideal time and location to experience either a few moments of tranquility or to immerse yourself in the aural rush of urban activity.
The first series of this show will be developed around the Icknield Port Loop area of Birmingham as part of the 10th Fierce Festival.
The first episode will be available online on Saturday 26th May at this website. If you’d like to stay updated about the project and automatically receive the shows as they are published visit the ’subscription’ section or if you’re happy using RSS you can use the tab up there on the right.
